Make and Make and Make
my worlds on fire!! how bout yours!!
Boy howdy, it has been quite the start to the new year, and a pretty exhausting one at that. It feels weird to get on here and try to write a newsletter while families are being stripped apart, innocent Americans are dying in the streets, and everyone’s rights are slowly being stripped away. It’s hard to sit in my studio, looking at a canvas, and not feel like I’m wasting my time being an artist.
I’m using my platform and my art to remind people to take action, speak out, and find small joys in the horrible predicament we are all in. I’m doing my best to take what a shit show everything is and channel that into something tangible that people can see and relate to. Making art also keeps me from going insane, so I guess that’s not a waste of time.
Fuera la migra // Fuck ICE
A lot of artists are guilty of keeping heaps of scraps and other recycled goods, thinking they will be good to make art with one day. I have so much random paper and cardboard that I’m finally doing something with it.
My bud, Albert Gonzales, does a lot of recycled cardboard art installations all over the city and has inspired me to pick street art back up again. I used to draw on USPS Postage stickers back in college and put them all over Santa Fe. I’m not sure why I stopped doing this, but I’m excited to start finding perfect spots for art to go.

This is my local SAPL branch library, and I’m so honored to have some pieces on display until late March. They also always have teen art from my alma mater, East Central High School, on display. Check out a new book and see the pieces.
A few more things coming in March that I’ll share about soon, including my studio being a part of On and Off Fred Rd!
If you’ve ever been curious about what art I don’t share online or want to hear the stories behind the pieces, then a studio tour is perfect for you! I’d love to have you, just email me at shelvis1994@gmail.com (or respond to this newsletter) to set up a time and day that works for you.
Stay safe everyone!! It’s wild out there.
xoxo
Shelby
